Art of Mourning on ABC’s The Collectors
A few months ago, I was asked to participate on the ABC television show ‘The Collectors’ in Australia and on September 17th, I will be appearing and talking about my favourite subject(s) in the world; mourning and sentimental jewellery. The pieces were shot a couple of months ago and they’re now all lined up and ready to go, needless to say, I’m rather excited! Don’t expect a fully in-depth and academic overview of the mourning industry (that’s why I keep the websites), but more of an appetiser for viewers who may not know much about the subject and want to learn more.
You’ll see some familiar faces from the collection as well as my rather unfamiliar face lighting up the television.
For those who want to see a very small promo, I’m right at the end of the last episode and can be seen on the ABC’s iView, the website that allows viewers to download and watch ABC programs. I’ve been told it’s not available to overseas viewers, so I’ll see what I can do to encode the upcoming episode for you all to download and enjoy!
Here’s what they have to say for the upcoming episode:
“At the other end of the scale is Hayden Peters, a jewellery historian and world-renowned expert on sentimental and mourning jewellery. These are the jewels, (mostly rings, brooches, necklaces and bracelets) that are individually made to commemorate the death of a loved one. They are invariably beautiful and moving, all the more so when the story they tell is known. Hayden operates two globally successful websites, specialises in the period 1500 to 1920, and has been collecting for 18 years.” – Episode 28, Friday 17 September
