Art of Mourning in San Francisco

Join Hayden Peters (Art of Mourning) for an in-depth look at the desire for mourning jewelry of the 16th to 19th centuries. Discover the symbols of mourning, what they represented and why people designed these magnificent jewels that kept the memory (and hair) of loved ones for their families.

This lecture will then discover how much these jewels cost, who made them, how they were made and who retailed them throughout the centuries.

This is a companion piece to the publication ‘Profit and Loss’ from the anthology ‘A Miscellany of Death and Folly’ from Egaeus Press, which looks at the lives of the people who made mourning jewels, creating profit from loss.

The evening includes a delightful pre-event reception with drinks, light bites and magnificent victorian jewlery vendors.

Hayden will also be available to assess historical appraisals, by appointment (TBA)
